Going Green
Starting on 6 April 2008 energy performance certificate (EPCs)
will be required for all newly built business premises and also
on the sale or letting of business property over 10,000 sq. metres.
On 1 July 2008 more business property will require them, and from
1 October 2008 all business properties sold or let will need an
EPC.
What is an EPC? It is a record of the energy efficiency and the
environmental impact of the building on a scale of A-G, with A
being the most energy efficient and G being the least. If you
are a seller selling a business property or a landlord granting
a business lease to a tenant, failure to provide an EPC to your
buyer or tenant, free of charge, could result in you having to
pay a financial penalty which will be based on the rateable value
of the building being sold or let.
More information on EPCs and how they will affect you will be
available shortly.
